Through our ongoing partnership with Columbia County Current, Beach & Bartolo is proud to support the historic businesses and creative minds that define the Village of Chatham. In early March 2020, The Chatham Bookstore hosted a magical afternoon of storytelling for the community.
A Journey to Kazakhstan via Chatham
The event featured Melania Levitsky, the Associate Artistic Director of Walking the dog Theater, who shared her then-new children’s book, “The Gold in the Ground.” Based on a traditional folk tale from Kazakhstan, the story follows a farmer and a shepherd who discover a pot of gold that—surprisingly—nobody wants.
Artistry and Illustration
Beyond the reading, the event offered a unique look at the creative process:
-
Original Artwork: Levitsky presented the original illustrations from the book, which remained on display at the bookstore through April 2020.
-
Theatrical Connection: The event highlighted the crossover between Chatham’s vibrant theater scene and its literary community.
-
Family Engagement: As a free and open event, it brought together families and art lovers in the heart of the Village.
-
Location: The Chatham Bookstore, 27 Main Street, Chatham, NY 12037

Date: Saturday, March 7, 2020
