Through our partnership with Columbia County Current, Beach & Bartolo is proud to highlight the world-class cultural institutions that make the Village of Chatham a premier destination. October 2019 marked a historic milestone: the 20th Anniversary of FilmColumbia.
A Decade of Cinematic Excellence
Hosted by the historic Crandell Theatre, the 2019 festival was an eight-day celebration of nearly 60 films. The lineup featured major studio releases, independent gems, and award-winners from international festivals like Cannes, Sundance, and Toronto.
Acclaimed directors including Noah Baumbach, Terrence Malick, and Alex Gibney were represented, alongside stellar performances from Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson, and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Honoring a Local Connection: James Schamus
For its fourth consecutive year, FilmColumbia honored an acclaimed artist with deep ties to the Columbia County community. The 2019 honoree was James Schamus—a legendary producer, writer, and director who has been a pillar of independent film for over 30 years. The festival celebrated his career with screenings, Q&As, and a special benefit reception.
Village-Wide Festival Locations
The festival truly takes over the Village, with screenings and events held at iconic Chatham landmarks:
-
The Crandell Theatre: 48 Main Street
-
Tracy Memorial Village Hall: 77 Main Street
-
Morris Memorial: 17 Park Row
Beyond the films, the 2019 schedule was packed with community events, including the Makers on Main Street showcase, the Friday Night Pub Party at People’s Pub, and the "Art of Film Editing" workshop.
