Through our ongoing partnership with Columbia County Current, Beach & Bartolo is proud to document the unique seasonal traditions that make the Hudson Valley so enchanting. In October 2019, the Clermont Mansion in Germantown hosted its signature fall event: the Legends by Candlelight Ghost Tours.
A 250-Year Journey Through Time
The Candlelight Ghost Tour is a perennial highlight of Clermont’s autumn season. During the 2019 event, the historic mansion—once the seat of the influential Livingston family—was filled with "ghosts" representing over two centuries of residents and staff. Guests traveled back in time through the darkened halls, meeting figures from the mansion's 250-year history.
Autumnal Atmosphere in Germantown
The 2019 experience extended beyond the walls of the house:
-
Jack-O-Lantern Display: The grounds featured dozens of intricately hand-carved, flickering pumpkins.
-
Fireside Traditions: Following the spooky tours, guests gathered to roast marshmallows over an open fire.
-
Historical Storytelling: Each tour combined local folklore with documented history, offering a "creepy" yet educational look at one of the region's most important estates.
-
Location: Clermont State Historic Site, 87 Clermont Avenue, Germantown, NY 12526
-
Dates: Friday, October 25 & Saturday, October 26, 2019
