Celebrating the Written Word in a Historic Setting
For over a decade, the Festival of Books has transformed the Academy’s 1847 schoolhouse into a sanctuary for book lovers. The 2019 event welcomed nearly 2,000 readers to rural Columbia County for three days of literary discovery.
2019 Festival Highlights
The Labor Day weekend schedule offered something for every generation:

The Members’ Preview: Friday kicked off with exclusive early access to the book rooms, a wine and cheese reception, and a "members-only" atmosphere.

Family Fun: Saturday morning featured a special visit from the beloved character Froggy for the children.

Public Programming: Throughout Sunday and Monday, the festival opened its doors for free author presentations, poetry readings, and massive book sales that have become a hallmark of the Spencertown summer.
