From the Half Moon to Your Front Porch: The Legacy of Columbia County

The story of our home began with a famous detour. In 1609, Henry Hudson was navigating the river that would eventually bear his name. When he came ashore in search of supplies, he encountered the Mohican people, the original stewards of this land. That chance encounter opened the door for Dutch and German settlers, eventually leading to the official formation of Columbia County in 1786.

A Landscape Unlike Any Other What those early explorers discovered—and what we still treasure today—is a terrain that feels like a masterpiece of nature. We are uniquely cradled between the gently sloping Catskills to the west and the iconic Berkshires to the east. Our landscape is a rich tapestry of rolling hills, hidden ponds, and winding streams that have inspired artists and thinkers for centuries.

The Modern Discovery Today, the "discovery" of Columbia County continues. Whether you are a full-time resident raising a family or a weekender seeking a sanctuary from the city, there is a shared sentiment among us: we are incredibly lucky to call this place home. The beauty that drew settlers here 400 years ago hasn't faded; it has only become more precious.
