Through our ongoing partnership with Columbia County Current, Beach & Bartolo is thrilled to document the cultural evolution of our region. In late August 2019, the City of Hudson saw the birth of a new tradition: The Hudson Eye.
An Artist-Driven Urban Showcase
Launched by the Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation, The Hudson Eye was designed as a 10-day public program to strengthen the community through contemporary performance and art. The inaugural event focused on:
-
Diverse Disciplines: Dance, music, performance, film, and visual arts.
-
Local Flavor: A "Dine Around" program featuring Hudson’s world-class culinary scene.
-
Intellectual Exchange: Daily 1:00 PM "Panel Salons" held throughout the city.
The Legacy of the Hudson River School
The program was created in dialogue with Hudson's history as a "sustainable creative sanctuary," a legacy dating back nearly 200 years to the founding of the Hudson River School. By celebrating both established local artists and the next generation of creators calling Hudson home, the event provided a celebratory close to the peak tourism weekend of the summer.
"Our city and region have long been a source of inspiration for artists to live, work, commune, and meditate," noted the foundation during the planning phase.
